چکیده

This study examined the impact of palatal lift intervention on articulatory kinematics for a speaker with acquired velopharyngeal incompetence (VPI) following brainstem tumor excision. Articulatory adaptations to VPI management may be expected in response to sudden changes in vocal tract adrodynamics and acoustics. This investigation was designed to address the following research qtlestions: (1) Does articulatorv performance change in response to palatal lift intervention? and (2) If so, are the observed perfornance changes in the tlirection of normal speakers? Changes were observed in response to the palatal lift in kinematic measures of cumulative distance, peak speed of movement, and consistency of movement patterns. Changes were most notable in upper lip performance, which appeared to be the result of con"rpensatory adjustments. Although the experimental participant's performance with palatal lift interverrtion became more similar to that of the nondisabled controls. his performance was markedly different on many kinematic parameters.

Symptomatic palatal tremor following multiple listerial brainstem abscesses.

Palatal tremor is a rare movement disorder characterised by continuous involuntary rhythmic movements of the soft palate, sometimes including other muscles innervated by cranial or spinal nerves. The condition may be essential or symptomatic [1]. We describe a case of symptomatic palatal tremor associated with hypertrophic olivary degeneration (HOD) following multiple brainstem abscesses caused...

A Comparative Study of Dentoskeletal Changes Following Orthodontic Treatment with First Premolar Extraction in Long Face and Normal Patients

Introduction: The purpose of this study was to evaluate vertical facial and dental changes after orthodontic treatment with extraction of first four premolars, and to find whether long facial height could influence the treatment result. Methods: Fifty-six orthodontic patients with the minimum age of 15, whose treatment plan involved extracting four first premolars, participated in the study. Th...

Partial removable prosthesis in a patient with unilateral maxillectomy: A case report

BACKGROUND AND AIM: Maxillofacial defects due to malignant or benign tumors or congenital defects often result in complications such as the impairment of facial aesthetic, mastication, speech, and swallowing. Remedy of these defects, especially in a dentate patient is an important challenge in prosthodontics. Maxillectomy can lead to severe anatomical changes f...

Objective Peak-Detection in Complex Auditory Brainstem Response to /ba/, /da/, /ga/: A Novel Technique

Objectives: The result of auditory brainstem response is used worldwide for detecting hearing impairments or hearing aids. This study aimed to introduce the superiority of mathematical innovation algorithm toward subjective evaluation by an audiologist. The automatic algorithm method is encouraged for detecting the waves of Auditory Brainstem Response (ABR), because it can reduce subjective eva...
